Ira “Buddy” Chatman

Ira “Buddy” Edward Chatman, 66 of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at his home. He began a career with the Missouri Pacific Railroad (MoPac) in 1979, transferring to Union Pacific Railroad upon their acquisition of MoPac in 1979. He has primarily served as a train dispatcher in Omaha, Nebraska and North Little Rock, Arkansas since then until his retirement in 2010 after thirty-four years of service in the industry. He enjoyed boating, swimming, fishing, golfing, and traveling, and in his youth he enjoyed slalom skiing. He was predeceased by both parents Edward Earl and Lessie Mae (Carter) Chatman; and his brother Travis Chatman.

He is survived by two daughters Hillary (Chatman) Boshers of North Little Rock and Sara Chatman Brooks and her husband Jake of Springdale; a sister Rhonda Chatman of Salina, Oklahoma; a niece Lauren Chatman; two nephews Jacob Chatman and Michael Sitsler II; a granddaughter Bonnie Jo Brooks; two great-nieces.

All arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren. No formal service will take place at this time.
