How to Get the Deepstar Aurelid Mount in World of Warcraft

Every World of Warcraft update brings a collection of new mounts to earn, and Eternity’s End is no exception. There are over 40 new mounts to obtain, but some of them have more bizarre methods to obtain than others. One such mount is the Deepstar Aurelid, a new prototype jellyfish mount earned by fishing something strange.

This mount is a loot from the rare Hirukon in the patch 9.2 Zereth Mortis area. It is a jellyfish creature located underwater at the location of the map below. However, players cannot attack this monster and must follow a few rigorous steps to bring it to the surface and make it attackable.

First, the characters must fish in the waters above this location in hopes of obtaining an item called Strange Goop. This has a very low chance of falling and can take over 1,000 throws. It can also be bought and sold at the auction house for those with the funds.

Once this item has been obtained, players should take it to Baroness Vashj in Maldraxxus at the location shown on the map below. She will then task the player with fishing for three different ingredients to forge the lure needed to fish Hirukon.

The three necessary items are not difficult to find and simply require fishing in special pools spread over three areas.

  • Spiky pufferfish from a pool in Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh
  • Flipper Fish from a pool in Zin-Azshari in Nazjatar (the fish will wiggle freely and you’ll need to right-click on it to get the item)
  • Coilclutch Vine looted from the Ruins of Vashj’ir in the Shimmering Expanse

Return to Baroness Vashj with all of these items and she will create the Aurelid Decoy. Returning to Hirukon’s location in Zereth Mortis, and provided the rarity spawned underwater, the player should now be able to see an aurelid pool just above the creature. Fishing there will bring Hirukon to the surface and allow anyone nearby to attack him.

The player who uses the lure to fish Hirukon has a 100% chance to loot the Deepstar Aurelid mount. Other players attacking the creature also have a small chance to receive it, but at a much lower drop rate and only have one chance per day.
