City of Kenosha

The city of Kenosha is the fourth largest city in Wisconsin and is uniquely blessed with being bordered by a Great Lake. With a population of approximately 100,000, it offers small-town charm balanced with the urban conveniences and big-city conveniences of nearby Chicago and Milwaukee.

Kenosha Harbor is home to a thriving sport fishing industry, as well as sailing and boating opportunities. Throughout the spring and summer months, weekends are filled with festivals, outdoor concerts, and classic car shows paying homage to the city’s rich auto-building history. Its thriving arts scene is evident in the city’s many galleries, public artworks, performance venues and cultural events that celebrate creativity and collaboration.

Five museums educate, entertain and inspire visitors. The Civil War Museum, Kenosha Public Museum, and Dinosaur Discovery Museum are each affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution, offering world-class exhibits and programming. On Simmons Island, the Kenosha History Center preserves and shares Kenosha’s history of settlement, industry and automobiles. While on the island be sure to visit the seasonal Southport Lighthouse Museum where you can learn about our local maritime history and climb to the top of the Southport Lighthouse Tower for stunning views of our Lake.

Kenosha had long been known as a manufacturing town, with the transportation industry having a strong presence in Kenosha for over 100 years. Today, Kenosha is a business-friendly community home to several large companies, including Amazon, Ocean Spray, and Uline. Kenosha is the world headquarters of Jockey International, Inc. and Snap-on, Incorporated.

Over the years, Kenosha has been the hometown of a number of celebrities such as actors Mark Ruffalo, Don Ameche, Al Molinaro and Daniel J. Travanti, as well as famed actor, writer, director and producer Orson Welles. Inventors Christopher Latham Sholes and Oscar Zerk were from Kenosha. Kenosha is the hometown of Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler. NFL, MLB and NBA players also hail from here.
